In Memory of...
Willie James Allen

Mr. Willie James Allen, age 76, of Skokie, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

Mr. Allen was born on May 7, 1938 in Griffin, GA, to the late Sandy Allen and the late Annie Andrews Allen. He decided to go into the United States Army at age 17 and was in the Korean War. He always was very proud to have served his country even though racial problems existed due to the fact that the U S Army had only been integrated for 10 years.

Willie worked for Parliament Enterprises. However, it was always a labor of love. He started to work with the company when it was relatively new. He started out in construction, became a loving and beloved valet. In later years he was a supervisor for renovation projects. Even when he retired, he had a small part time job with the company. He was always proud to wear the jackets that had the Parliament insignia

Many people referred to Willie as a gentle giant. He listened carefully and only offered advice if asked. When he spoke his sincerity warmed others. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed joking with his nieces and nephews. To know Willie was to love him.

Survivors include his beloved wife Phylis Sugar-Allen, sons, James (Monica), Peter (Heather) and Paul (Denise) Allen; grandchildren, Shanika, Shannon (Tamika) Myleka, Ya’Kera and Zachary; siblings, Grace, Mary and Zell; many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Willie James Allen will be conducted on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Pastor Jesse Allen will officiate. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Friends may visit with the family from noon until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Allen’s honor to The Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or the Soldiers Project Chicago at www.thesoldiersproject.org, 847.256.5700.
