Mrs. Mary Louise (nee Giangiulio) Alleva
Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Mary Louise (nee Giangiulio) Alleva, 76, passed away on July 4, 2010. Mary was a lifelong resident of Devon, living in the house that her husband of 42 years, Lou, built with his father. Born in Ardmore, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Mary (nee Listino) Giangiulio.

Mary was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her five children: Louis J. (wife Marianne) of Malvern, Frank A. (wife Tammy) of Downingtown, Angela (husband Stephen) Gonsorick of Coatesville, Tina (Nicholas) D'Antonio of Malvern and Thomas J. (wife Lindsey) of Devon and 12 grandchildren: Kristin, Shelley, Nicole, Louis III, Alicia, Laura, Nina, Danny, Nicholas, D.J., Christopher and Cole, as well as her sister, Anna (George) Hughes of Virginia and brother, Nick (Judi) Giangiulio of Texas.

Mary graduated from Tredyffrin-Easttown High School, class of 1952, where she was in the Band Color Guard and also where she met the love her life, Lou. Louie and Mary were married on Halloween night in 1953 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Her family was frequently reminded that Mary's sister-in-law, Joan, never looked more beautiful that night!

Both Lou and Mary went to work with their family at Alleva's Coffee Shop in Berwyn where they would ultimately work together until it closed in 1990. Alleva's Coffee Shop became a local landmark and the source of many lifelong friends for Mary and her family. Above all, Mary was dedicated to her family, whom she loved very much. She served as an inspiration to them all and despite physical challenges was dedicated to attending all of her grandchildren's activities. She loved to cook and will be fondly remembered for having family and friends together for spaghetti and meatballs.

Mary's family would like to invite friends to share in her Life Celebration Service on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Ave., Malvern. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Monica's Church, 63 Main Ave., Berwyn, PA 19312. Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park.
