John Jens Christian Anderson was born 21 Nov 1856 at Stavanger, Skudenes Island, Norway. His parents were Rasmus Anderson Vik born Stavanger, Norway and Jensina Nilsdatter Dalset born Northfjord Norway, both died Decorah, Iowa. John had the following known siblings: Knut Rasmusson, Nils Rasmusson, Olene Rasmusdatter, Berta Malene Rasmusdatter and Andreas Rasmusson. John and his family immigrated to America in 1857 and settled at Freeport, Winneshiek County, Iowa. John married Martha Sjursdatter Mjolsness at Horace, N.D. in March 1894. Martha born Stavanger, Norway. She was the daughter of Sjure Knutson and Dorthe Malene Olavsdatter. Her siblings are unknown.
John and Martha moved to just north east of Perley, MN, where they began to farm. John also ran a butcher shop in the nearby village of Perley. The family was living in the Village of Perley by 1910. John and Martha were the parents of nine children as follows: Dena Amalia m. Isaac C. McNeilly , Emma Josephine m. Ernest Lee Good, Ruth m. Augustinus Valdimar Nelson, Signe Dorthea m. Floyd Llewellyn Garrett, Joseph Martin m. Ethel Odelia Moe, Olga Amanda m. Eggert "Ed" Gudmundur Austfjord, Ole A. m. Vivian M. Payne McDonald, and Merrill "Merle" m. Lillian Nina Ellingson Hiller.
John passed away 27 Feb 1942 at Walnut Grove, MN. He was 86 years old and his death was attributed to old age. Funeral services for John were held at the Bethania Lutheran Church on March 4, 1942.
