Bernhard Huber married Itha "Ida" Schmidt on 18 August 1857 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zell, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri with Rev. F.X. Weiss officiating.

Bernhard and Itha came to Young County by ox cart in 1876. Bernhard settled on 160 acres of land near School creek. His land claim was filed in Austin, Travis County, Texas on 18 April 1878.

Bernhard Huber was killed in his blacksmith shop by an unknown assailant. The murder remains unsolved to this day. His widow, Itha "Ida" Huber continued to live on the family farm until 1911 when she moved to Jermyn, Jack County, Texas.

Bernhard Huber died intestate. He was married one time in his life and that marriage with Ida Schmidt. To this union, nine children grew to adulthood:
