David Porter SALLINGER 1st North Carolina Confederate Regiment of Martin County, North Carolina, was promoted to Sargent at Chancellorville. He was taken captive at Gettysburg, 23 January 1864.

On Aug. 2, 1913 at their home at Hinson," N. C , Mr. and Mrs, D. P. Sallinger celebrated the 47th, anniversary of their wedding. For three days before, the children and grand-children began to arrive and on the day named every child and grandchild living had gathered at their home. At 1 P. M. on the above date a bountiful dinner consisting of all the trood old southern dishes was served beneath the cedars and crape myrtle trees.Twenty-one partaking of the dinner. ' The blessing being asked by I Master D. P. Sallinger, Jr. The afternoon passed too quickly as all such pleasant tinrs do ' and as the twilight shadows be-' gm to gather over motLer earth the merry crowd again gathered beneath the trees and enjoyed a delightful ice cream supper. Those attending were; Mr..' and Mrs. D. P. Sallinger, Mr." C. D. Sallinger of Hinson, N. C, Mrs. Amanda Harrison and daughter, Miss . Bernice of Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. W. W? Browning and Masters Philip i Ralph, Merritt and Misses Ruth and Mary Browning of Hinson, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Sallinger, Masters D. P. and James M and Miss Gladys Sallinger of Portsmouth '.Va., Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sallinger, . Master Murrell and Miss Mae Sallinger of New Bern, N. C. The crowd all disbanded saying they had such a delightful time and wishing them many more such pleasant anniversaries and planning for the golden wedding which will, be only three more years.
