He was the son of John Reed Sr. and Sarah "Sally" Kiser. He married Elizabeth Freeman on 2 Aug 1810 in Cabarrus Co., N.C. #778 in Meckl. Co. Heritage Book. Their marriage bond was signed by Ely Howell.
