Jerry William Blanton, 61 of Odum, Ga. died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia after an extended illness.
Born March 3, 1952 in Jesup, Ga., he was a contractor, owner of Blanton Builders and a deacon of Altamaha Baptist Church. He was a 1971 graduate of Wayne County High School and a talented builder, known for his strong work ethic, honestly and intergrity. He was instrumental in the construction of the Altamaha Baptist Church sanctuary and social hall, as well as many homes and commercial properties in Southeast Georgia. Jerry ha a passion for life, loving god, his family, his church and his friends. Sports, fishing, skiing, camping,and music were his favorite pastimes. His mother, Irma Reddish Blanton, preceded him in death.
survivors are his wife of 38 years, Harolyn Ogden Blanton of Odum, Ga.; a daughter and son- in-law, Carrie and Rick Peel of Jesup, Ga.; a son Josh Blanton of Odum, Ga.; a father, Willis S. Blanton of Jesup, Ga.; 3 grandchildren, Andy, Haddon and Emily Anne Peel, all of Jesup, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Danny Weaver, Ronnie and Terri Ogden, both of Jesup, Ga., Bobby and Dianh Ogden of Odum, Ga.; 5 nephews and a niece.
Funeral service will be 3 P.M. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Altahama Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Lee officiating.
Interment will be in the Altamaha Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his nephews, Dustin, Ron, Chad, Sean, Kyle Ogden and Todd Carter.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 P.M. prior to services at the church.
