Inga Braud, 91, of Ashby, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Center in Fergus Falls.

Inga Marie Braud was born June 21, 1918, on the family farm in Eagle Lake Township, rural Battle Lake, to Lars and Karen (Eastvold) Braud. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church of rural Battle Lake and attended School District No. 6 and Ashby High School, graduating in 1938. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Ada, Minn., and began working at the Memorial Hospital. She then moved to Fergus Falls and started working at Wright Hospital and then Lake Region Hospital. She worked as a nursing assistant and a physical therapy assistant.

Retiring in June 1983, Inga had plans to travel. In December 1983, her intentions were suddenly changed when a stroke devastated her lifestyle and retirement plans. She then became a resident of Lake Region Nursing Home and for the last seven years was a resident of the Pioneer Nursing Home. Although Inga was unable to speak with her voice, she had a twinkle in her eye and always greeted you with a warm smile or handshake.

Inga enjoyed participating in Bible study, was a member of the Pioneer Home Choir, was an avid follower of the Minnesota Twins and enjoyed playing bingo. When the weather was nice, Inga was often out in the courtyard at the Pioneer Home enjoying the many plants and birds.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Verna Braud of Battle Lake and Pearl Braud of West St. Paul; nieces: Carole (Jerry) Jensen of Blaine, Minn., Donna (Laramie) Winczewski of Houston, Texas, LuAnn (Larry) Martinson of Battle Lake and Linda (Paul) Roberts of Battle Lake; nephews: Loren Braud of Phoenix, Ariz., James (Kathy) Braud of Little Falls, Minn., Roland (Diane) Braud of Fergus Falls and David (Deb) Braud of Battle Lake; and by several great nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Bertha and Jeanette; and her brothers: Jacob L., Conrad, Jacob, Marcus, Garman, Joseph and Ruben.

Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Battle Lake
