DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — James (Jimmie) C. Liakos, 96, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., passed away July 3, 2013.

Born in New York, N.Y., on Oct. 4, 1916, he was a longtime resident of Watertown, Conn.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Virginia) Liakos of The Villages, Fla., Janet Damon (James) of Miami, Fla., James Liakos Jr. (Janine) of St. Augustine Beach, Fla., Lois Hall (Keith) of Torrington, Grace Kelley (Brian) of Thomaston; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Grace (Flisher) Liakos; his parents, Louis and Estelle Liakos; daughter, Barbara Hensel, and grandson, Nicholas Liakos.

James was a founding member of Watertown Gold Circle of Sports and a member of the Waterbury Olympian Club.

A celebration of life will be held privately with burial at All Saints Episcopal Church Memorial Garden in Oakville, Conn. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society of America.
