Irene Benning, 92, of Browerville, passed away on September 26, 2012, at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. Funeral services for Irene were held on Monday, October 1, 2012, 11:00 a.m., with Father Peter VanderWeyst officiating. Interment was at Christ the King Cemetery, Browerville.

Irene was born October 3, 1919 to John & Mary (Wrobel) Goligowski. She married Louie Benning on November 4, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Browerville. Irene and Louie bought land in Ward & Turtle Creek Townships and farmed there until they moved into town in 1980. Irene enjoyed crafting, fishing with Louie, dancing and traveling, playing cards, reading, word puzzles, playing piano and organ and made the best coffee cakes around. She was an avid journal keeper. After moving into town the family always enjoyed seeing which jigsaw puzzle Irene was working on. Her hands and her mind were always busy. Many afghans and knit throws adorn her family's homes. The time she spent at the Care Center created new friends and family for her. The love and care she received there was exceptional.
