Alfonso A. Chacón, age 81, a resident of Alcalde, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 31, 2012 following a lengthy illness.
Alfonso was preceded in death by his wife, Valentina Chacón, parents, Adelaido and Frutosa Chacón, sisters, Mary Lina Martínez and Reyes Rendon, in-laws, Alejandrino and Josefina Gallegos, sisters-in-law, Bernie Martínez, Rose Gallegos and Josephine Macarenas and brothers-in-law, Emilio Rendon and Sam Gallegos.
Alfonso served in the United States Army. Alfonso was an Hermano of the Confradia de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno in Alcalde for 60 years.
Alfonso enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting.
Alfonso will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Alfonso is survived by his daughter, Mary Lina Tanuz and her husband, Victor of Alcalde, sisters, Candie Valdéz and her husband, Joe of Riverside and Josie Guillen and her companion, Joe Leyba of Alcalde, nephew raised as a son, Richie Guillen and his wife, Lenora of Ohkay Owingeh, sister-in-law, Charlotte Martínez and her husband, Cipriano of Alcalde, brothers-in-law, Alex Gallegos of Alcalde and John Allen Gallegos and his wife, Florence of Alcalde and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Public visitation will begin on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the Alcalde Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Richie Guillen, Michael Guillen, Raymond Valdéz, Julie Morales, Jennifer Mondragón and Mark Rendon. Honorary pallbearers will be Hermanos of the Confradia de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, Joe Leyba, Richard Guillen, Elizabeth Romero, Willie Espiñoza, Richard Valdéz and Joe Sánchez.
