Martha Ann Hudson Divers, passed from this world on Sunday, February 7, 2010. She was born to the late Tipton and Mildred Patterson Hudson February 22, 1935 in Rocky Mount, VA. She was a loving wife and a devoted, caring, mother and grandmother. She took a great pride and enjoyment in her family and friends and their accomplishments. She loved to talk about her family and their wonderful history. Martha was a true original. She had a particular sweetness and was always quick with a compliment. She always tried to make everyone around her feel better. She loved many things, especially dogwoods, a good cup of coffee and watching and talking about old movies, especially her favorite, John Wayne. She cherished her many visits to family in Arizona and loved the southwest. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Dr. Benjamin P. Divers, Jr.; sisters, Emily Lynch and Nancy Naff; brothers-in-law, Cecil Lynch, Bob Naff and Lenford Dooley; and beloved niece, Laura Williams. She is survived by her sons, Bob Divers of Phoenix, AZ and Charlie Divers of Rocky Mount, VA; three granddaughters, Jessica and Sarah Divers of Phoenix, AZ and Sierra Clark of St. Albans, W.Va.; a great-grandson, Jackson Murphy of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Frances Dooley of Salem, VA, Mary Louise Williams of Rocky Mount, VA; brother-in-law, Raymond Williams; nieces and nephews, Jesse and John Moore, Charles Lynch, David and Richard Dooley, Mary Lou Campbell, Johnny Simms, Mary Adkins, David and Pat Williams; also special friends, Mary Fitts, Martha Ann Naff, Denise Duncan and Marie Preston. Because of her many family and friends in the Phoenix area she will make a final trip there this weekend for a visitation and service Saturday, February 13, 2010. She then will return to Virginia. Visitation will be at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount Friday, February 19, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. Services will be Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with Dr. Jack Corvin officiating followed by interment at the Ayers Family Cemetery in Glade Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 85 West Church Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or the American Lung Association, 9221 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23235.
