Emma M. (Funk) Bleacher, 91, of Conestoga, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy. Born July 31, 1917, in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Verdna (Keperling) Funk. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Bleacher.
Mrs. Bleacher was a member of Green Hill United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. In her free time, Emma enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with her loving grandchildren.
Mrs. Bleacher is survived by three sons: H. Kenneth, husband of Linda Bleacher, of Millersville, Donald L., husband of Arlene Bleacher, and Jay L., husband of Jane L. Bleacher, of Conestoga; a brother, Norman Funk, of Conestoga; two sisters: Mildred Pickel, of Kansas, and Catherine Spotts, of Millers-ville; ten grandchildren: Alan Bleacher, Randy Bleacher, Wendy McMichael, Tammy Bleacher Bartlett, Stephanie Gebhard, Kimberly Corlew, Michelle Leed, Jackie Frey, Jenna Bleacher, and Justy Bleacher; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Emma was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin and Preston Funk.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Green Hill United Methodist Church, 5801 River Road, Conestoga, with Rev. Marjorie Harris officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Green Hill United Methodist Memorial Fund, 5801 River Road, Conestoga, PA 17516, or Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
