He was a long time employee of, and retired from, J.B. Beaird Co., where he earned numerous awards for outstanding sales achievements in the L. P. Gas industry. For many years, he served on the Louisiana State L.P. Gas Commission and was proud of the fact that he never missed a meeting. In addition, he continued to maintain his beloved timber property in Bienville parish up until the time of his death. For many years he was active in the Couples Class at First Baptist Church. He also enjoyed past membership in several organizations, including the Shreveport Country Club, the Petroleum Club and the Louisiana Forestry Association.
A daughter, JoAnn Adams Hutchinson and her husband Charles Moore Hutchinson III, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Opal Smith Adams, and a daughter Judy Adams Austin.
He is also survived by granddaughters Ashley Hutchinson Hancock and Claire Hutchinson McCormick, and their husbands Buzz Hancock and Todd McCormick, along with their children Mary Cecile Hancock, Julia Hancock, Mia McCormick and Myles McCormick. Two sisters, Lois Webb of Shreveport, and Bethel Reese of Dallas also survive him.
The family requests that memorials in Ty's honor be made to the charity of one's choice.
