Mabel Irene Woolfenden, known as Irene, was born on the 30th of April, 1936 in Alexandria, VA. On June 16, 1954 Irene graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, Alexandria, VA. Two days later she married James Edward Harris at Groveton Baptist Church, Belle Haven, VA. They divorced in 1970.

Irene began her career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1966 and worked for the USPS for 26 years. During the 1990's She did volunteer work for Toys for Tots, The Salvation Army, Dumfries United Methodist Church, Bread and Fishes, the American Legion, Civitans, Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department and a number of other organizations.

Irene passed at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA and is buried near her father at Belle Haven Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Kopp, VA.

Mabel is survived by her four children, James E. Harris Jr., Steven B. Harris, Gary Kevin Harris and Sharon Neville; her siblings, Raymond W. Woolfenden Jr., Reginald D. Murphy, Michael Murphy, Raynee C. Woolfenden, Casmere Kistner and Ranier Hart; her stepmother, Doris Woolfenden; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond W. Woolfenden and Mabel I. Liming.
