Raymond James Culliton, 60, of Duluth, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, in Solvay Hospice House. ^^He was born on Feb. 28, 1950, in Cloquet Community Hospital to Astrid and Ambrose Culliton. He graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1968. He retired from Local 242 IBEW in 2006, after 37 years as a licensed Journeyman Electrician. Ray was known for his tall tales and his stories that seemed fantastic including an unassisted triple play in baseball and defending his garage against a curious black beer with just his steel-toed boot. He will be remembered fondly by his fellow electricians, deer hunters, snowmobilers and ATV enthusiasts. Ray lived life in a "carpe diem" fashion, living by his own rules. Ray is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice; daughter Christie of Duluth; two sisters, Earleen (Charles) Hanson of Wrenshall, and Lois (Dave) Van Reese of Nashwauk; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. ^^In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to the Solvay Hospice House Duluth or the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. The family would like to extend its thanks to Cheryl and Tod from St. Mary's Hospice and Palliative Care, to the most wonderful staff and volunteers at Solvay Hospice House, especially Jeannie who cooked Ray's favorite foods. VISITATION: 10 until the 12 noon memorial service Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1108 E. Eighth St., Duluth. Internment at Holyoke Cemetery in Holyoke at a later date. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.
