He was a native of Graham County and had spent most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Ozzi and Lucy Jordan Adkins and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Putnam and Charlene Walker. Ronald retired from Champion Paper Company in 1982 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church , a Sunday school teacher and sung in the choir. He enjoyed woodworking, golf and church activities. He was an U. S. Army Air Corp Veteran serving in WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillie Aiken Adkins, one son, Richard Adkins and his wife, Libby, of Leicester; two grandchildren, Jason Adkins and his wife, Lori, and Aaron Adkins and his wife, Abby, and four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lily, AnnsLeigh and Annasten Adkins.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Reverend Allen Rash and Reverend Tim Moody will officiate. Military Services will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
