John Byron Hawse, 84, of Petersburg, died March 31, at the Grant County Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Born in Baker, West Virginia, May 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Dora Mae (Funkhouser) Hawse. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Anna Lee (Rexrode) Hawse; and three siblings.

He is survived by three children, John Lee Hawse of Beckley, Teresa (Hawse) Simmers of Harrisonburg, Va. and Rebecca Ann Hawse of Petersburg. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

A memorial service was be held April 16, at 1 p.m., at the Main Street United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be made to the John B. Hawse Memorial Fund at the Grant County Bank in Petersburg, W. Va. These contributions will be disbursed to The Alzheimer's Association, The American Cancer Society and various local institutions.
