Memorial services for Sylvester James "S.J." Adams will be 10 a.m. Monday at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Denney and the Rev. Steve Biggerstaff officiating.

Born March 5, 1934, in Carter County to James Quincy and Delores Mae Smith Adams, he died April 11, 2001, at St. Paul Medical Center, Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Clydene Ellis Adams, in 1990.

Smith worked in construction as an equipment operator and was a member of Operating Engineers Union No. 627. He married Geneva Willingham on June 2, 1998, in Gainesville, Texas. They enjoyed spending time together and were active with their senior citizens group.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva, of the home; three sons, Steven Adams and his wife, Lesa, Dickson, Dennis Adams, Lone Grove and Ronald Adams, Fort Worth, Texas; one stepson, Cliff Smithers, Kansas; three daughters, Susan Brawley and her husband, Gary, Ardmore, Patti Hacker, and her husband, Rickey, Lone Grove, Janie Blair and her husband, Lance, Davis; one step-daughter, Debbie Henson, Lone Grove; and 18 grandchildren.

A time for friends to visit with the family will be held immediately following the memorial service.
