Mrs. Brooks, 70, a longtime resident of the Byron area, died of natural causes Saturday (May 10, 2008) at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center. She had been a resident of the care center for two years.
Janice Larsen was born Jan. 7, 1938, in Kalmar Township, Olmsted County. She grew up in that area and graduated from Byron High School. On Sept. 7, 1956, she married Dale L. Brooks in Byron. The couple ran a dairy farm in rural Byron for many years. Mrs. Brooks also worked in central service at Mayo Clinic for many years and at Otto's Bakery in Byron. She was a member of Byron United Methodist Church, was a former 4-H leader, and participated in league bowling, card club and the Zumbro Valley Grange. She enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Hayward, Wis., with friends and family.
She is survived by two sons, Michael and Tom (Catherine), both of Byron; two daughters, Joni Brooks (Ken Hames) of Pine Island and Barbara (Richard) Brooks-Holtegaard of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Lewis (Sharon) Larsen of rural Kasson. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 7, 2008, a grandson and a brother.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Byron United Methodist Church, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. There will be no reviewal.
Memorials are preferred to Byron United Methodist Church or to frontal temporal dementia research.
