James Walter Adams, Sr., 90, of Camarillo, Calif., died September 12, 2001, at St John's Pleasant Valley Hospital. Mr. Adams was born August 28, 1911, on a houseboat on the Wabash River in Lafayette, Ind. He moved to California with his parents and grew up on the Lucky Baldwin ranch, also known as Santa Anita Ranch, in Arcadia, California. Jim attended El Monte Grammar School and El Monte High School. He attended Purdue University and, after returning to Calif. He went to Woodbury Business College for his bachelor of business administration degree, majoring in sales and creative advertising. He married Lucrezia Loinaz, who he met at Woodbury Business College. They had two sons and a home in Studio City. Jim then worked for the United States Tobacco Co. in sales and merchandising. He then retired and moved to Reno, Nev., where he became involved in sales of wholesale candy, tobacco and sundry items covering the Ren-Tahoe area, ski resorts, casinos and vending machines. He was charter grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Third Degree, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Council No. 6016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucrezia. In 1987, he married Pauline Messmer in Camarillo. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Adams; sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter Adams, II and Jerry; Walter James Adams and Nancy; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; 16 great grandchildren; step-daughter, Sharon McCleary; and sister Leona Ferguson. Jim loved God, people and beautiful things, especially flowers. He will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Assoc., 1996 Eastman Ave., Ventura, CA 93003 or OASIS, 2532 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, CA 93010. Services were held September 14, 2001, at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo.
