Manuel “Shorty” Zapata Aldama, 82 of Rockdale passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with burial following at I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, October 16, 2015 at the funeral home with a rosary starting at 7:00 pm.

Manuel was born January 2, 1933 in Rockdale to Prudencio and Epifania (Zapata) Aldama. He married Sally Cruz on April 19, 1953 in Rockdale. Manuel worked as a tire man for Gaither Ford for over 30 years before going to work for Bassler Energy Services for 16 years. He loved to go hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching baseball and football and his favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. He played baseball for the Rockdale Clippers and as he grew older and couldn’t play he always looked forward to Sundays to prep the field. Shorty always worked and loved being around and spending time with his grandchildren. Manuel also loved to dance.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marcelino Aldama, Simon Aldama Sr., and Prudencio Aldama Jr.; sisters, Martha Garcia, Toline Vasquez, Romana Valverde, and Delores Juarez.

Manuel is survived by his wife 62 years, Sally Aldama of Rockdale; son, John Aldama and wife Amanda of Rockdale; daughters, Erica Aldama of Rockdale and Blanca Aldama of Rockdale; grandchildren, Brandy Cain, Jadon Aldama, Jazzalena Aldama, Ziva-Ann Aldama, Zaniya Aldama, Kyle Hill, Johnathan Aldama, and Harley May; great grandchildren, Amia Aldama and soon to be born, Manuel Aldama; sisters, Tomasita Santos of Killeen, Alicia Gomez and husband Oscar of Killeen and Ofelia Delarosa and husband Luis of Temple; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Cruz Jr., Tim Castaneda, Reynaldo Rubio, Rafael Lara, Urbano Cervantes and Francisco Ramirez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Miller Bassler and Jerry Cruz Sr.
