Lawrence B. Anderson Dies at Colorado Springs

The body of Lawrence Anderson, whose death occurred at Colorado Springs, CO last Wednesday evening [6/16/1909], arrived in Colfax Saturday morning accompanied by his father. The remains were taken to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Mary Henderson where family and many friends of the deceased gathered. The funeral was held on Sunday at the Colfax Christian Church, conducted by Rev. N.H. Robertson and assisted by the Rev. Fred Nichols of Table Grove, IL. The pallbearers were from his closest friends and family members. The Modern Woodsmen attended in body. After the obituary was read and Rev. Robertson delivered a short address, he introduced Rev. Nichols who had been Lawrence's roommate during their college days at Eureka College. At the end of the service, a long cortege of vehicles followed the body to Wiley cemetery where Mr. Anderson was interred beside his dear mother.
Lawrence B. Anderson was born Aug 17, 1884 in Lawndale Township, McLean Co, the only child of Millard F. and Lucinda Smith Anderson, He spent much of his early years in Colfax where he graduated High School in 1902. That year he entered Eureka College. After 1 year at Eureka he taught for 2 years. In the Spring of 1905 he re-entered Eureka College, graduating with a teaching degree in spring of 1907. In the fall of that year he entered the Law program at Illinois Wesleyan University. In the spring of 1908 his health became poor and he had to leave school. The doctors recommended a trip to California or the Rockies. Eventually, nothing could be done and he passed away surrounded by friends Wednesday Evening. He was a brilliant young man who led a Christian life in all aspects an his bereaved parents can rest assured that he is now beyond any illness or pain and that his life has not been in vain.
