JEWELL CASSADY
Jewell Jordan Cassady was born in Callison, SC on July 5, 1916. She traveled to her heavenly home February 9, 2014. She was the youngest child of George Calhoun Jordan and Margaret Dorn Jordan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by Paul McCheyne Cassady, her husband of 57 years.
Jewell graduated from Greenwood High School and Lander College and completed studies at Furman University and Winthrop Teachers College. After receiving her college degree, Jewell moved to Charlotte, NC where she taught in the Mecklenburg schools and met her future husband. When they returned to Callison, she taught many years in the McCormick School District until retiring in 1980.
Jewell continuously read novels and religiously worked crossword puzzles. Her mind remained clear and sharp during her 97 years of life. Always having an artistic flair, she became an artist specializing in water colors and was a constant educator throughout her life.
During Jewell's lifelong membership at Bethel United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Bethel Women's Society. Upon the closing of Bethel, Jewell attended the Chapel in the Pines in Callison. In the days after the services ceased at Bethel, Jewel would go to Bethel and quietly meditate.
Jewell is survived by her two daughters, Lesa Cassady Camp of Callison and Catherine Cassady Ergle and husband Robert of Aiken: grandson Scott Fortson and wife Ashlie, and daughter Cassady; Grant Camp, wife Michele Reba, and daughters Gabriela, Elloree, and Ceclia; Paul Camp, wife Linde, daughter Lillian, and sons Sullivan and Harrison; and David Camp and wife Annie Banks: and numerous special nieces and nephews. Other than her husband and parents, Jewell was predeceased by her brothers, Calhoun Jordan and the Reverend Howard Jordan, and her sister Myrtis Jordan Counts.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 15 at 1:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Chuck Keller officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
