Was killed by the sweeppole of a tie wagon near Surry Court House.At the time of his death he was engaged in the saw mill and railroad tie business.
Married three times,his first wife was Miss Lucilla Wallace of Fredericksburg,married in 1887 she died in 1895.Second wife,was Miss Patsy Fitzhugh Gordon of Caroline County and his last wife who survives him,Miss Carrie Steel,of Surry.The father of four children.
Brother of Alice(married Samuel J.Gordon) ,William D.(Willie,died in 1889),Lelia F.and A.Bernard
