"The Harvard Courier", Harvard, Nebraska dated Friday, August 6, 1915:
DEATH OF MRS. KORGAN.
Johanna Christina Korgan – nee Nauman – was born in Dresden, Saxany, Germany, May 5, 1832, and died at Harvard, Nebraska, Monday, August 2, 1915, aged 83 years, 3 months and 27 days.
At the age of about twenty years she came to America, locating in Manitowaco county, Wisconsin, and was soon after married to Frederick Korgan of that county.
In 1873 they moved to Harvard, Nebraska, and settled on a farm seven miles northwest of town on section 22, in Leicester township, where her husband died April 4, 1884. Since then she has lived with her son Herman on his farm on section 6, in Harvard township, northwest of town.
Grandma Korgan was blessed with good health almost continually. On Friday of last week she was able to do some work. Was up all day Saturday and part of Sunday, but at one o'clock Monday night death came to her suddenly. Besides her three sons John, Morris and Herman – and her daughter, Mrs. Mary Warner, she leaves fourteen grand-children and six great-grand-children to mourn her loss.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, August 4th, first at the house, where Rev. H. H. Hackman officiated, then at the German M. E. church at 2:30 o'clock Rev. H. Schirneker, pastor of the German Evangelical church, five miles north-west of town, preaching the sermon in German. He was assisted in the exercises by Rev. H. H. Hackman, who spoke briefly in English. A quartet consisting of Misses Rose Kreutz and Tillie Shafer, and Messrs. Roland Kreutz and Ben Shaffler, with Miss Rosa Bieck as accompanists, sang touchingly appropriate hymns. Interment was made in Harvard cemetery. The following serving as pall-bearers: Otto Bishoff, Clarence Dimmick, Otto Hoffman, William Keller, William Koenig, and Peter Schnell.
