Samuel, the fifth child (of 10) born to Samuel and Amanda Dobbs (an older brother to my grandfather, Jowell Conner), died as a result of a fatal knife attack while attending a dance held at a local farm. From the period newspaper accounts it appears it was never established clearly who was responsible for the attack when a melee broke out involving three other young men.
Sam had married Miss Minnie E. Crandall the previous February and they had a son, Samuel C. (a posthumous birth). Minnie would later marry John W. Wade.

Gravesite Details
It is unknown why 1908 is on the gravestone, as it appears to be from that period (unlike his parents marker).
