RACINE, Wis. -- Lloyd Meiners, 74, died in Racine Thursday morning Jan. 10, 1991. He was born in Caledonia, Minn., June 4, 1916. In 1938, he received his B.S. degree in science and physical education from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He taught science, physical education and coached in Marion and Nekoosa, Wis., and in Winona, Minn. In 1947, he moved to Sheboygan. Later, he earned his master's degree in physical education from the University of Iowa, and did post-graduate work in health at University of Indiana. During World War II he served with the Navy in the South Pacific after special training at Harvard and Princeton universities. At Central and South high schools in Sheboygan, he served as department chairman of physical education. He was involved in community activities with the recreation department, the Red Cross and the aquatics program in Sheboygan. He was a member of state and national educational associations, People-to-People, International and Armchair Travelers Club. He was awarded the rank of emeritus in the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in March 1981. In Racine, he was a volunteer for Tex Reynolds Toys for Tots. He taught conversational English through the Wisconsin Educational Association in Korea, China, India, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. He had been a world traveler for many years. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, M. P. Marion and Lawrence Sura of Racine; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Mark R. and Faith Meiners of Gaithersburg, Md.; two grandsons, Matthew and Madden Meiners; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Russell Roth of Hokah, Minn., and Evelyn and Roy Wornardt of West Bend, Wis. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Funeral services will be held in Grace Lutheran Church, Racine, Sunday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, Minn. Friends may call at Grace Lutheran Church from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Memorials to Bethesda Lutheran Home Foundation have been suggested. Wilson Funeral Home, 1139 Blaine Ave., Racine, is serving the family.
