Elsie Edna (Vietz) Ahl (1917 - 2011)
Elsie Edna Ahl, of Lodi, passed away peacefully at her home on November 12, 2011, with her family by her side. She was born on April 2, 1917, in Denhoff, North Dakota to John and Katherine Vietz. There she met Herbert Ahl. They were married in McClusky, ND. Herb and Elsie farmed for a short time, then moved to Filer, Idaho, where they were blessed with three sons. In 1942, Herb and Elsie moved to Richmond, CA where Herb worked in the shipyards building the Liberty ships for the war effort. Lodi became their next home. They had a dairy business, and Elsie worked in the Woods Cannery. In 1956, Elsie started working at Diamond Walnut Company in Stockton. She worked there until she retired. Elsie loved to cook, sew, and travel to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, and North Dakota and Arizona during the winter. Herb passed away in 1996; they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Elsie was a member of Fairmont Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herb Ahl, daughter, Louella Ahl, and son, James Ahl. She is survived by two sons: Arle (Grace) Ahl and Dale (Sharon) Ahl of Lodi; grandchildren: Michael Ahl, Michele Boehm, Joyce Freeman, Jeff Ahl, Brian Ahl, and JeAnn Davis; 8 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; sisters: Goldie Adams and Erma Boepple; brother: Bill Vietz; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elsie was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to visit on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., in Lodi. A funeral service will take place on Monday, November 21, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with committal to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
