Beverly S. Cox, 56, of Abingdon, died at 5:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. She was born May 31, 1945 in Warren County, west of Abingdon, the daughter of Cleo R. and Vista K. Anderson Cox. She is survived by her mother, Vista Cox, Abingdon; one son, Jeffrey Cox, Boulder, Co.; one daughter Shannon (John) Swank, Abingdon; one brother, Bob (Verna) Cox, Abingdon; two sisters, Judy Simpson, Abingdon and Janet (Ted) Nelson, Galesburg; one grandson, Brody Callihan, Abingdon, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Jeanetta Cox. She had lived in Abingdon all of her life where she graduated from Abingdon High School in 1962 (1963). She later graduated from the former Dooley's Cosmetology School in Galesburg. She was a self employed beautician for ten years and was a cake decorator. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon where she was a Missions Leader, song leader and former Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Eleanor Landon and Rev. Marty Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
