Civil War Veteran Widely Known Over the County, Seventy-nine Years of Age, Formerly Lived Near Sheridan and Nortonville
Nathan Kiste, civil war veteran and widely known over Hamilton County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Zadia Richards, on S. 11th Street, shortly after noon Sunday, following a long illness, aged seventy-nine. No arrangements will be made for the funeral until word is received from the children of Mrs. Richards who are in Oklahoma.
Mr. Kiste was born in Ohio but came to Indiana with his parents when a young man. A short time later he was married and for many years they resided on a farm north of Sheridan. After selling out there they purchased a farm near Hortonville and resided there until about twenty years ago when they gave up active work and moved to Noblesville. Both he and his wife spent the remainder of their days here, Mrs. Kiste died six years ago. Only one child remains, Mrs. Richards, survives. They raised Fred Lynch of Ft. Wayne but never legally adopted him. One brother of the deceased lives in Ohio and a sister resided in Iowa.
Mr. Kiste served in the Union army as a member of Company E, Fifty-seventh Indiana Regiment, enlisting in the service from this county. He saw eighteen months of active service and was in the hospital with typhoid fever for many weeks.
He was active in G.A.R. work of this city as long as his health would permit.
