Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Lawrence A. and Maggie Thomason Putnam. He was a retired farmer and a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Clarabel B. Jewell, Johnnie Hipps and Betty P. Rhodes, all of Simpsonville; and one son, James G. Putnam of Simpsonville.
Mr. Putnam was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Abercrombie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the graveside at Cannon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cannon Funeral Home, Fountain Inn.
