Christeen Hammett Jackson, age 96, widow of the late Rev. Murray Jackson, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at her home in Bluff City, TN.

She was born September 1, 1912, in Anniston, AL to the late Asbury Earl and Sebina Carson Hammett. After graduating from high school in Chattanooga, TN, she attended Maryville College where she graduated with a BS in Home Economics and Science. She accepted a teaching position in an Indian school in Tucson, AZ. Upon returning from AZ, she accepted a position in Meridian, MS teaching Home Economics, Chemistry and Biology and coaching girl's basketball. She later returned to the Chattanooga area to teach at Appison High School. While there, she married Murray F. Jackson and they remained together sixty-two years. Mrs. Jackson also taught in Tennessee and North Carolina and retired in 1977. Mrs. Jackson was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church. Her whole life has been her church, her family and her schools.

Survivors include her loving children: Perry M. Jackson and wife Brenda, Bluff City; daughter: Linda Jackson Coffey and husband Gary, NC; six grandchildren: Tammie Jackson and Nathan Shockley, Bluff City, TN, Vonda Steffes and husband Patrick, MI, Perry Jackson, II and wife Krystal, GA, Kevin Coffey and wife Diane, GA, Brenda Bridges, NC and Christy Davis and husband Charles, NC. Also surviving are eleven great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Jeffrey and Jacob Kuykendall, David and A.J. Steffes, Erin, Ethan and Trevor Davis, Logan Davis and wife Ashley, Matthew and Samantha Coffey; and two great-great-grandchildren: Adriawna Kuykendall and Natalee Odom.

Mrs. Jackson will be missed by her special friend and caregiver Judy Rutter. The family wishes to express special thanks to Wellmont Hospice, Dr. Jonathan Bremer and Louise Caudill for the loving care given to Mrs. Jackson.

The funeral service for Mrs. Jackson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 25 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Scott Greene and Rev. Jamie Ferguson officiating. Special music will be provided by a grandson Kevin Coffey, soloist. The committal and entombment service will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Coffey, Jeffrey and Jacob Kuykendall, Nathan Shockley, Perry Jackson II and Charles and Logan Davis.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of Perry Jackson (538-4329).

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steeles Rd., Bristol, TN 37620.
