Donald Ray Bayer, 63, of Scottsbluff, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Central Church of Christ, in Gering, NE., with Pastors Lyle Hinebauch and Richard Landrigan, officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 pm, at Ash Hollow Cemetery, in Lewellen, NE. A memorial has been established in Don's name, in care of the family.

Don was born December 13, 1945, in Sterling, CO., to Rudolph and Mary (Kosmacek) Bayer. He received his early education in Ogallala, NE., and lived with his family in Roscoe, NE., and he later received his GED. He married Donna Marie Orr, and to this union, was born: Kim, Bryan and Brenda Bayer. They lived in Oshkosh, NE., where Don worked for Midwec, and then in 1975, they moved to Scottsbluff, where Don worked for Midwec, then later, for Tri-State. He opened and operated Don's Gun Shop, then later, it came to be Don's Gun Shop and Small Engine Repair, which he ran for over 30 years.

He was very passionate about hunting, fishing, camping, scuba diving, planes, metal detecting (as long it was done his way!), and Harley Davidson motorcycles. "Everything else was just a 'rice burner!" He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a strong Republican, a member of the NRA, and the Living Stones Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Roseanne Loseke of Scottsbluff; daughters: Kim (Michael) Lovelace of Prescott Valley, AZ., Brenda (Shawn) Willey of Gering, NE.; son, Bryan Bayer of Alliance, NE.; grandchildren: Sadie Lovelace of Prescott Valley, AZ., Trenton, Grant, Sydnie, and Shelton Willey all of Gering, NE.; sister, Linda (Monty) Vetter; nephew, Floyd (Kathy) Bayer; and numerous other nephews; nieces; and cousins.

His parents; wife, Donna Bayer; and brother, Lloyd Bayer; preceded him in death.
