Charlie G. Pinkston, age 99, of Mountain Home, passed away Jan. 20, 2009 at Care Manor Nursing Center. Visitation will be from 12-9 P.M Friday, Jan. 23 at Roller Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6-8 P.M. A Masonic service will follow at 8 PM. Funeral Services , conducted by Rev. Max Pyron will be 2:00 P.M. Sat. Jan. 24 at Roller Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors will follow at Baxter Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Pinkston was born June 4, 1909 in Mountain Home, Arkansas to Thomas Jefferson and Melzelda Trotter Pinkston. He married Faye Massengale on June 12, 1937 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He retired from McDonnell-Douglas in 1971. A WWII Army Field Medic, he landed on Normandy Beach during the D Day invasion. He was a member of the Arkansas-United Sons of Confederate Soldiers Association, the only living son of an Arkansas Civil War Confederate soldier. He was a 32nd degree Shriner, a 33rd degree Mason, a member of the Mountain Home Blue Lodge, a member of the American Legion Alley White Post 52 and a member of the Order of Purple Heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Pinkston of Mountain Home; grandson, Clinton Greg Pinkston, serving our country in the Air Force. A half- sister, Nettie Pool of Calico Rock.
Preceded in death by a son, Charles Gary Pinkston, Dec. 26, 2004; a brother Edward and sister-in-law Fannie Pinkston, 1 half brother, Gene Young and 1 half sister, Lottie Brinsfield.
