Rites for Mrs. Lockhart

The funeral of Mrs. Geneva Lockhart was held at the Christian Church Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Rev. Roy E. Nible, Pilgrim Holiness church, Sabetha, delivered the sermon, assisted by Rev. Robert Stalcup, Sabetha. Mrs. Roy E. Nible sang "The Last Mile of the Way;" Mrs. L. J. Stark, "The End of a Perfect Day." Mrs. L. J. Stark, Mrs. Ward Gates, E. E. Holston, and C. S. Goodrich sang "Going Home," with Mrs. Sidney as pianist. Pallbearers were T. E. Brammer, Howard Thompson, Charlie Heald, Vernon Kimes, Charlie Heald [sic], and Ivan Thompson. Burial was in the family lot in the Fairview cemetery.

Geneva Hannah (Hutchings) Lockhart, who was the third child of Wm. and Harriet Hutchings, was born in Delavan, Ill., Aug. 17, 1858. She died at the home of her daughter, mrs. Viola Clelland, June 28th.

On August 17, 1874, she married Franklin Pierce Lockhart in Illinois. In 1878, they traveled from San Jose, Ill. to Smith county, Kansas in a covered wagon and moved from there to Nortonville in 1882. In 1889 they moved to Nemaha county where they spent the remaining years of their life.

To this union were born 12 children: Austin of Dishman, Washington; Mrs. Viola Clelland, Goff; Benj. J., Corning; Harry D., Denver; Bert F., Morrill; Eleanor Wolf, Brewster, Ks.; Margaret Marshall, Topeka; William Elvin(Buster), Denver. Preceding her in death are Cora Peret; a son, George, who died in infancy; Harriet Gale; and Laura Moore. The husband died on the farm northeast of Goff, September 3, 1907. Beside her five sons and three daughters, she is survived by 31 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Grandma Lockhart had a wide circle of friends who sorrow in her passing, for this mother who was ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of need.

She became a charter member of Pilgrim Holiness church, Sabetha, several years ago and was ever faithful to her church. For several years, she was the oldest member. Her final illness was of but a little over five weeks' duration. She fell, injuring her hip, from which she never recovered.
