CHARLTON - William A. Mower, 82, of the Masonic Home, 88 Masonic Home Road, died Monday evening in the home after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Hazel A. (Nichol) Mower of Charlton; a son, Herbert W. Mower of Westford; a sister, Dorothy Rushton of Arlington, Va.; and two granddaughters. Mr. and Mrs. Mower celebrated their 54th anniversary in August.
Mr. Mower was born in Cambridge, son of William and Antha F. (Phillips) Mower. He lived more than 30 years in Somerville before moving to New Hampshire. He lived in Charlton nearly two years. He was a graduate of Arlington High School in Arlington. He attended Suffolk University School of Law, Boston. He was a Somerville firefighter for 30 years, retiring as deputy chief in 1973. He was a member of College Avenue United Methodist Church of Somerville; the International Association of Fire Fighters; the Somerville Lodge of Masons; the Scottish Rites Bodies, Valley of Concord, N.H. He also was an active member of De Molay Legion of Honor, Massachusetts Court.
A memorial service is planned for a later date at College Avenue United Methodist Church, Somerville. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead, in the spring. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home, P.O. Box 1000, Charlton, MA, 01507. Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., is directing arrangements.
