Born in Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Helen (Stier) Howland, and was raised in Swampscott and Lynn and attended Swampscott and Lynn schools.
She was an office worker in the freight department of the Boston and Maine Railroad in the Boston office, retiring in 1968.
A member of the railroad union, she was also active with the Retired Friends and Covenant Women of the Community Covenant Church, Peabody.
Miss Howland leaves close friends, Barbara B. Bacheller and Olga C. Johansson of Lynn.
Services were held Monday, April 22 at the David J. Solimine Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev. James Anderson of the Community Covenant Church. Burial was in Swampscott Cemetery.
