Old Resident Dead
Mrs. R. J. Wimmer, 78 years of age, died at the home of her son, Marion in Avalon Tuesday morning about 9 o'clock. Her death was caused from old age and a general complication of ailments.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from her late home and burial was made in the Avalon cemetery. Besides her son, Marion, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John Mitchell of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell and daughter Fontaine went to Avalon Tuesday to attend the funeral.
Mrs. Wimmer had been a resident of Livingston county for over half a century having come to this state from Virginia in the early days.
Rebecca J. Compton was born May 16, 1839 at Falls Mills, Va., and united in marriage to James A. Wimmer of Jeffersonville, Virginia, Sept. 20, 1858. To this union nine children were born, two passing away in infancy and six sons and one daughter survive. Eleven grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren also survive. James A. Wimmer, husband, passed away March 29, 1890. She united with the church when a child and had always lived a christian life. Her grandfather was a Methodist minister.
