Addie is my Gr-Grandma.
The fourth of seven children born to William R & Sarah Ellen (Crim) Wilkes of Rushville, Rush Co IN, Addie married:
1) Uriah James Warfield on 25 Oct 1891 in Rush Co IN, my Gr-Grandpa, the son of James Rafter & Mary Jane (Mavity) Warfield of Manilla, Rush Co IN; they had four children, two sons and two daughters.
2) Frank Pearsey on 10 Jul 1920 in Rush Co IN, son of Alfred Crawford & Sarah A (Bainbridge) Pearsey of Rushville, Rush Co IN; they had one son.
After Frank's death, Grandma Addie spent the remaining years of her life as a widow.
As we get older, we sometimes tend to remember things that happened so many years ago. I really do remember my Gr-Grandma, specifically the softness of her cheek. It was plump and "squishy" and she smelled so good, like lavender. That may be why, even as a young girl, I liked the smell of lavender. I was almost 5 yrs old when she died.
My Aunt told me an interesting story recently. Apparently Addie was in love with her second husband when she was a young girl. However, her father thought it best she marry Uriah since the Warfield family was more prominent at the time. Have not yet found divorce papers, but she appears to have waited until her father's death before leaving Uriah and marrying Frank. She was a dutiful daughter and for this I am very grateful as she is now a part of me. My Mom always said she was a very sweet lady.
