Daughter of Franz Heinrich Thias and Friedericke Küsen, Marie Thias married Rudolph Schmidt on 07 Oct 1871. Mr. Schmidt's occupation was "Malter" on census records of 1870 and 1880 and "Prop Malt House" in 1900. Mrs. Schmidt indicated on the 1900 census that she had nine children and six were living. SCHMIDT—St. Louis Globe-Democrat, 24 July 1905)
Entered into rest, July 28, at 6:30 a.m., Marie C. Schmidt (nee Thias), relict of the late Rudolph Schmidt and dearly beloved mother, grandmother and sister, at the age of 52 years and 3 months.
Funeral from residence, 1125 Hickory street, Tuesday, July 25, at 2p.m., to Bellefontaine cemetery.
Rudolph C. Schmidt, Frank T. Schmidt, Helen Daub, Lulu Ballak, Erwin O. W. Schmidt.

It's possible that Rudolph Schmidt was a widower at the time of his marriage to Marie Thias. Some evidence points to a 19 Nov 1864 marriage to Lucy Jane Schwikhardt and a son, Rudolph C. Schmidt, born circa 1865 to this union. Lucy Schmidt died 11 Jul 1869.
