Funeral services for Claude Merritt, ex-service man, were held in the ward chapel at one o'clock last Wednesday. Commander A. Dixon Burton conducted.
Bishop Dana of the Thayne ward and Mr Burton were the speakers. They both spoke words of consolation to the bereaved in giving them hope of a resurrection and a reunion again in a future day.
Music was furnished by a quartet consisting of James Gomm, Royal Preston, Mary Jensen and Leonore Fluckiger.
Number rendered were "The End of a Perfect Day" "Shall We Meet Beyond the River" and "Unanswered Yet"
Ernest Turner also sang a solo "O Dry Those Tears".
Prayers were offered by Harold Allen and R.G. Crook.
The following legionaries acted as pall bearers: Jack Fluckiger, Heber Merritt, Alf Walton, Russell Titensor, Joseph Moser and Ed Christainsen.
Interment was in the Bedford cemetery.
The grave was dedicated by Harold Allen.
Claude was the son of Alonzo and Alice Merritt, one of a large family of boys and girls. His father passed beyond, some thirteen years ago. He was married to Denna Bernum of Kemmerer, Wyo, several years ago and has spent most of his time outside of Star Valley.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his young wife, three small daughters, his aged mother and the following brothers and sister: Mary Pope, Garden City Utah; Emma Marks, Idaho Falls; Adrin Merritt Bedford; Mattie Nichols, Nampa Idaho; Irene Calder, Garden City Utah; Maud Merritt Los Angeles Calif; Jennie Hildt, Garden City UT, Venley Merritt, Salmon Idaho; Harve, Ben, Jasper, and Norman all of Bedford.
The following people from outside attended the funeral:
Mr and Mrs Vern Pope, Mr and Mrs Eldrige Nichols, Mr and Mrs Dave Calden ad Mrs Claud Merritt's sister from Kemmerer.
