1880-1881 Hauled freight from Sidney, Nebraska, to Pierre, South Dakota, and from there to Dead Wood, South Dakota. Aquainted with Buffalo Bill and Clamity Jane - 1883 Rapid City, South Dakota -1884 returned to Callensburg, Pa, where he married - 1888 went back to Rapid City, South Dakota, where he had a feed mill followed by a lumber business - 1905 settled in Seattle, Washington, where he purchased a saw mill - 1933 Retired - Had Asthma.

Thomas J. Elliott, 84, former operator of a Winlock mercantile establishment and father of George and Tom Elliott of this city, passed away late last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. L. Williams, at Seattle . He had been in poor health for some time.
Funeral services were held at the Bonny-Watson parlor in Seattle Monday afternoon at 3 under the direction of Cattermole's of this city. Interment followed in Acacia cemetery beside the remains of his wife who preceded him in death only last December.
Mr. Elliott was born at Calensburg , Pa. , February 17, 1856, and was married in that city in 1884. In that year he and his bride moved west to Rapid City , S. D. where they resided until 1905 when the family moved to Washington , locating at Seattle .
They came to Winlock in 1910 and Mr. Elliott operated a mercantile business here until 1916, when he moved to Auburn where he operated a sawmill. Except for a short time spent in California , he had resided in western Washington since.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Mrs. Edith Cheever, and Mrs. R. L. Williams of Seattle , Mrs. F. E. Baldwin, of Cottage Grove , Ore. , and Mrs. R. Corbett of Los Angeles; and three sons, Tom and George Elliott of this city and Charles Elliott of Seattle. Sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
