The 1850 and 1860, U.S. Censuses for Brimfield Twp., Portage County, Ohio, listed Elias Hall residing with his parents on the family farm with as many as 9 siblings. Elias married Josephine Green, October 27, 1853. They had a son, Forest C. Hall, born July 17, 1854. Elias and Josephine were divorced in 1859, the year prior to his enlistment in Company F, 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, for a 3-year term of service, June 20, 1861. A brother, Sylvester, who also served in Company F, survived his military service. Elias was killed in the Battle of Winchester, Virginia, aka 1st Kernstown, in Frederick County, Virginia, March 23, 1862. Rank: Private. Elias's name should have been inscribed on the monument of the 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry because he died during the but in error, his brother, Sylvester's name was inscribed instead. The monument is located in Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.

On Dec. 12, 1863, a minor's claim was filed and issued as Certificate #29,013. Josephine married twice more time after her divorce--first to a man named Capron or Caprin, and secondly to a man name Armstrong. She died in the Franklin County, Ohio Infirmary, November 4, 1911 of apoplexy and was buried in Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus in Section 72, Grave 2555. She has no gravestone. DeForest C. Hall raised a family in Franklin Twp., Portage County, Ohio, and died there January 10, 1923. He is buried in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio.
