FAIR HAVEN - Francis Leroy Rooker, age 84, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Rooker was born in Fair Haven on July 6, 1926. He was the son of Leroy P. and Irene (Weller) Rooker. He received his education in local Fair Haven schools. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked at Maplewood Dairy in Fair Haven. He later worked at General Electric for several years before moving with his family to Benson. He worked for the Department of Health as a food and lodging inspector, before joining the staff at Northeast Rural Water Company that covered Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He retired in 1989. He was a member of Fair Haven American Legion Post #49. He belonged to the Fair Haven Historical Society. He was an avid deer hunter. He loved to play cards with his family and friends. Francis enjoyed working around his home and in his garden. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Linda (Hughes) Rooker of Fair Haven, whom he married Nov. 13, 1962; five daughters, Connie Rooker of Fair Haven, Mindy Brown of Poultney, Sheila Rooker of N.C., Nancy Duncan of Fair Haven, Cathy Delpha of N.C.; two sons, Francis Rooker Jr. of New Mexico and Steven Rooker of N.C.; two sisters, Joyce Fifield of Pittsfield and Joan LaFountain of Castleton. Many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Rooker, and sisters, Wilma Rooker, Marion Rooker and Jean Bruso. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Baron and Arthur.
A private funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 15, at The Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. The Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of The First Congregational Church of Fair Haven will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial with military honors will follow in the family lot in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

FAIR HAVEN - The funeral service for Francis Leroy Rooker, 84, who died Sept. 12, 2010, was held Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
The Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of First Congregational Church of Fair Haven, officiated.
Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Bearers were Josh White, Patrick McCrea, Fran Rooker, Larry Jr. and Benny Hughes.
Military honors were provided by Fair Haven American Legion Post #49. Vermont National Guard Pvt. Justin Santos sounded taps and Sgt. L. Carvey presented the flag to the widow.
A reception took place at the family home.
