Charles C. Chinn, 90, of 1107 E. South St., died at his home Sunday morning. He had been in failing health for two years.
Born Jan. 20, 1877, on a farm southeast of Marshalltown, he was the son of John H. and Lydia Austin Chinn. He received his education in the rural schools in the area of his birth and attended Marshalltown High School.
In August 1904, he was married to Gertrude Santee who died on June 8, 1917[actually, 1919]. In October, 1922, he was married to Mabel J. Chinn and they farmed southeast of Marshalltown until retiring and moving to East South Street in 1945 where they had since resided.
Preceding him in death were four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Chinn was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, was secretary-treasurer of the Marshall County Shipping Association for several years and served as a LeGrand Township Trustee.
Surviving is the widow and three children. Mrs. Marion (Alice) Hitchings of Zearing, Gilbert and Clifford Chinn, both of Marshalltown, and two step-children Mrs. Carl (Josephine) Sipling and Mrs. Russell (Mildred) Hitchings both of Marshalltown. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Delmar Cagwin, a patient in the Sherman Nursing Home.
Services will be from the chapel of Ester-Perrin Funeral Home at 2 p. m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. James K. Delahooke, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Methodist Church.
