Some of Byrd's children were: EARL Jackson (1916-1930) (killed in a car wreck)SAM Steven Cochran (1914-1995)m Anna Ruth Rollins; JESSE Houston (1913-1980) m Ruby Henson; Russell DEE (1918-2007)(m Tommie Frances Ellison; PAT Pearson married Odell Rollins; JUANITA married D. H. "Doc" Powers; Henry David "PETE"(1928-1999) married Arnetta Fay Powers.
One of Byrds descendants tells a story of how, when living in New Mexico, Byrd, having the flu faked his own death, and disappeared, because of some "gun trouble" with some gunmen who lived there. There was even a funeral held. That is when he moved to Stonewall County, and his family name was changed from Cochrain to Cochran. There is more to the story, which is family legend, in the book, "Stonewall County, Between the Forks of the Brazos."
There is supposed to be a book written by (Byrd?) someone in the family "Cochrans of Dead Man's Corner". I don't have a copy of that.
(NOTE: I HAVE NOT POSTED ALL OF BYRD'S CHILDREN HERE IN THE CEMETERY BECAUSE SOME OF THE DEATH CERT. DO NOT SAY WHERE THEY ARE BURIED. THE ONES THAT HAVE A CERT. AND IT GIVES PLACE OF BURIAL AS ASPERMONT, THEN I DID POST THEM)
Many of their descendants still live in the area.
Most of the information above is written by Juanita Powers Cochran and Ronnie Cochran as well as Jesse and Arnetta Cochran, as well as other members of the Cochran family and extracted from the Stonewall County History book mentioned above. There may be corrections, since the book was written in 1979.
