She was born in Lenoir County to the late Ronald Earl and Mary Mercer Cox. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all. She was a homemaker for most of her life and was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church for more than 40 years, where she taught Sunday school.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood O. McCaffity who she married on July 30th 1946 in Craven NC; and a daughter, Carolyn Rose.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory is her daughter, Mary Elaine Tripp and husband Glenn of New Bern; four sons, James R. McCaffity and wife Phyllis of Raeford, Kenneth Ray McCaffity and wife Holly of Hope Mills, Patrick A. McCaffity and wife Lynne of Roseboro, and Gregory E. McCaffity and wife Sheila of Portsmouth, Va.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Oleane Baker, Aileen Tripp and Susie Ward; and four brothers, Raymond E. Cox, James B. Cox, Henry Cox and Jack Cox.
The family will receive visitors from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, prior to services at the church. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitch Watson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mount Gilead Baptist Church cemetery.
