Almira Russell Hancock

Death: Apr. 20, 1893

Civil War Figure. The wife of General Winfield Scott Hancock, she played prominently in the oft-told story of the friendship between her husband and Confederate General Lewis Armistead. Their story became popular and better known after the publishing of Micheal Shaara's Gettysburg historical novel "The Killer Angels" in the 1970s.
