Grace Carlson Nickelson (92) was the daughter of John Whilhelm Carlson (Swedish immigrant) and Ellen Christina Larson. Grace was born in Big Stone County, MN and when she was 3 yrs old her family moved to Kandiyohi Township, Burke County, ND where they homesteaded 40 acres. (Township 159: Range 90). Grace graduated from Kenmare High School, ND and was best friends with Helen Nelson of Mohall, ND and was her bridesmaid.
Grace met and married Gilbert Nickelson when he was a meat cutter at Kinser's Meat Market in Kenmare, ND. They were married on June 1, 1937 in Kenmare, ND. In the 1940 Grace worked at the Kenmare Hospital. Gilbert farmed in the Bottineau area.
